Grandstands poke their head out of hibernation and will be playing some new tunes from their upcoming second album. They’re still plumbing their rich vein of inner-city ennui, but there’s more life behind them now, and its shows – the melodies are sweeter, the harmonies are richer, and the words say just a bit more.
Grandstands released their first EP in 2013 armed with little more than an empty garage and a free afternoon, and it led to gigs with like-minded groups such as The Ocean Party, Gang of Youths and Sleep Decade. Their first album Stranger, released in 2016, captured their jangly intertwining guitar melodies and odes to the everyday.
Grandstands will be joined by Quivers. It is all harmony, hangovers, jangle, shouted choruses, hard-fought optimism. Written in Beijing, started in Hobart and now living in Melbourne, Quivers has since played festivals and shows across Australia and the UK.
