Mallee Songs // Contrast

Mallee Songs and Contrast come together at the Post Office Hotel for a night of woozy psychedelic country and delicately layered noise pop. For both bands it’s a warm up lap for their upcoming album launches. Mallee Songs will be playing songs from their recently released Suburban Horse and Contrast will be playing noisy cuts from their new LP Singularity.

Suburban Horse is an album full of rich contradictions, all nocturnal and hushed, with dark, observant and often sad lyrics, leavened by instrumentation that turns darkness into a kind of stoic charm. It’s been describes in one review as being like “Arthur Russell’s barely there wistfulness with countrified folk, sawdust guitar strums and an air of natural curiosity at nature; Wordsworth meets Robert Hughes.”

Contrast’s Singularity pays homage to the noisy pop music of bands like the Velvet Underground and the Jesus and Mary Chain.
