Helen Ryder

Helen Ryder plays 2 sets from 4:30 pm. FREE

Helen Ryder is equally at home singing country, soul, R&B, gospel and jazz. Her favourite music is from the mid 60s to 70s where she's drawn to strong songs with beautiful melodies and a story to tell. Her recently released debut album Someday Love is eleven tracks of lush country and soul infused pop which includes two duet's, Lady Bird with Spencer P. Jones (The Beasts of Bourbon) and True Love Travels On A Gravel Road with Kevin Bennett (The Flood). The haunting ballad Hushabye Mountain orchestrated with strings and characterful double bass adds atmospheric's to the album while He Called Me Baby takes on a Memphis groove. Helen will be singing songs from Someday Love and more, with Bruce Haymes (Paul Kelly) on keyboards, Jeff Burstin (The Black Sorrows) on guitar, Yuri Pavlinov (The Bamboos) on bass and Tony Floyd (Things of Stone and Wood) on drums.

“A beautiful selection of songs interpreted with great feeling and backed by some of Australia's finest musicians.” - Brian Wise, Off The Record / RRR radio.

“Helen Ryder’s debut album is way overdue. To me, it sounds like the soundtrack to a romantic movie: Old Hollywood – romantic, wistful and moving. The voice is exquisite and the playing is beautiful.” - Jeff Jenkins, The Music / ABC radio
